Currently if you go to the basketball courts at Lenexa Rec Center, it reminds one of a superspreader event. Many gyms dont allow pickup at all, like the KU Med Kirmayer gym. I think ideally the rule should be to allow 3 on 3 half court, but mandatory masks on and off the court, until summer time when vaccinations will have reached a much greater portion of the population, then re-evaluate. Im fine with allowing half court basketball at limited capacity - BUT I think everyone should wear a mask while playing and while on the sideline. Those teenagers have personal responsibility too and they are not following through. As we ramp up vaccination, I hope situations like this dont contribute to a resurgence of COVID. Despite reminders from staff to wear masks, the sideline players, mostly teenagers, refuse to comply. While 4 on 4 half court basketball is currently allowed without a mask, a mask is required if players are standing on the sideline. However, they do have trouble enforcing the masking policy on the basketball court. I am always telling people I meet about it-and will continue to.Įxcellent facility. I do make sure I leave my child with the individuals I feel the safest with and take an active role in ensuring her safety. This is a great place to be a member. They also get to know you and your child. It was handled very professionally-I was amazed.Although I have had some trepidation with using Kid Zone, I am amazed with some of the staff who have gently taught me how to let my child go-it was very hard for me, a new mom. They allowed us to stop our membership without any repercussions and gave us time hacks within which to make decisions about staying or leaving for the time being. They communicated with us quickly and did not charge us. Love it!!I was most impressed with how they handled the COVID situation. There are many toys and craft materials, and an indoor climbing wall and basketball hoops so they can get their own exercise.Excellent facility-the employees are fantastic! Always ready with a friendly greeting, and they try to get to know you-it gives it a small town feel.I love the classes and the way that the organization makes it easy during COVID to access the amenities within own comfort zone-I can use a spin bike outside the classroom at any time. In the Kid Zone, children up to 11 years old will have supervised playtime for a maximum of 2 hours at a time. If you’re bringing children with you while you work out or take a fitness class, they can have fun in the Kid Zone. You must be 16 or older to use the equipment freely, but children ages 12-15 can use it after taking a youth equipment orientation. The third floor of the Rec Center is the fitness floor, housing gym equipment and an indoor walking track. Open-play basketball is always available, and volleyball and pickleball are available on a rotation. This gym is less open, as it can only be used for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball. The second gym in the facility is on the second floor. The activity gym has built-in soccer goals as well as court lines for pickleball and dodgeball. The Rec Center hosts many scheduled events in the activity gym, but people can use the space freely when there isn’t an event taking place. If you’re a member of the Lenexa Rec Center, the pool is free otherwise, the cost is $9 for Lenexa residents and $12 for non-residents.Īlso in the Rec Center is the activity gym: a fully enclosed gym space that has a wide variety of uses. The Lenexa Rec Center offers a lot of amenities, including an indoor pool with slides, a lazy river, a kiddie pool, and a warm water wellness pool.
